Why You Should Quit Smoking Cigarettes

Why quit smoking cigarettes?  This is probably a question that’s not asked nearly enough.  Cigarette smoking should you causes various respiratory cancers, heart disease, and a myriad of of other health issues.  None of which are good.

Nicotine is the addictive drug in cigarettes.  It is more addictive than heroin or cocaine.  A single drop of pure nicotine can kill you.  Nicotine is the tobacco plant’s natural defense against insects.  It is a class one insecticide.

Nicotine is a vasoconstrictor, meaning that it causes blood vessels to constrict.  And over a long period of time it can cause permanent high blood pressure or hypertension.  If you are on a smoke cessation program, smoking a cigarette while using a nicotine patch can cause a heart attack or stroke!

But nicotine is not the only dangerous thing in cigarette smoke.  There are over 4000 chemicals in cigarette smoke.  There are over 100 identified poisons and 63 cancer causing drugs.  Formaldehyde is used to preserve the dead.  Carbon monoxide can cause cholesterol problems and blood clotting problems and is found car exhaust.  Arsenic is used in rat poison.  Methane is a component of rocket fuel.  Ammonia is used to make toilet cleaner.  Cadmium is found in batteries.  Butane is the active ingredient in lighter fluid.  Hydrogen cyanide is the poisonous gas used in gas chambers.

And people this is just the tip of the iceberg!

The damages to your body caused by smoking cigarettes are many.  They include the loss of taste and smell, an oxygen starved body, damages to the male and female reproductive systems, lung cancer, heart disease, and causes premature aging of the skin due to increased wrinkles.  I realize that to quit smoking cigarettes is one of the hardest things you will ever attempt to do.  But there are safer alternatives and I have some solutions.
